Autumnal Fanciness

Greetings Friends! Autumn is here....and it is FINALLY starting to feel like Fall (no more 90 degree days..thankyouverymuch).  I have already decorated my apartment for Halloween.  It's never too early right?

I feel like things have been going non-stop for me since I last posted (back in July...oops).  Here is what I have been up to:

1. I went to a couple of weddings--both beautiful.  It was great seeing old friends. :)
***I wore this dress to both weddings...because I LOVED it sooooo much!! I purchased it from Lot2029 in Downtown Sioux Falls.  They also have locations in Bismark and Fargo, North Dakota***

2. I moved to a new apartment...and it is fabulous!  I was not looking for a new place, but when the apartment that I just moved into became available, I jumped at the chance to put in an application....and I got it!  It's the most beautiful apartment I have ever seen, let alone lived in.  Here is a little picture of the living/kitchen area (minus my new area rug....and my huge "All You Need Is LOVE sign):
***I love the hardwood flooring and exposed brick wall....OMG...my dream!! So fancy!***

Here is the "Beatles Wall" now:

I am not totally done decorating yet, but I have definitely made this place my home.  It is cozy and very fancy ginger-like. :) I even have a room that I have called my "Fancy Ginger Room."  It's where I hang all of my clothes and do my hair and makeup.  I mean, why not...right?

Gah...I love this place!

3.  School started...which means back to work for this Fancy Ginger. But, I love it...and I CANNOT believe that it is almost October.  Where is this year going?

4.  I started 2 new subscriptions....cannot remember if I already mentioned them in my previous post....and, let's be honest, I am too lazy to look it up to see if I did!?!?! I am now an official Stitch-Fix-er, and I subscribed to Glossybox (my newest obsession).

If you don't know what these are, Stitch Fix is a clothing subscription service.  In each box you receive 5 pieces of clothing and/or accessories-tailored towards your specifications (you fill out a long form on their website with your size, like/dislikes, etc.). I have received 2 boxes so far, and I have kept everything from those boxes (if you don't like something you can send it back--free of charge)--eek!!  LOVE this service. You can choose to get a box every month, but I chose to receive my box every three months.  This means that I will get a new shipment of clothing every season. Click here to subscribe to Stitch Fix. P.S.-- they offer a subscription for men too!! :)

Glossybox is a beauty subscription service. It costs $20/month, and each box gives you 5 deluxe samples or full-size beauty products in each box.   In each box I have received, there have been hair care and skin care products, along with make-up products.  I love it all....and the boxes are so nice (I am going to use them to wrap Christmas gifts in this year). Click here to subscribe to Glossybox.

5.  I am seriously so excited to go to Florida and the Bahamas in only.....7 months....so I have a bit to wait yet.  But still---Fancy Ginger goes tropical....with SPF 100, of course.
*********************************************************************************
That's all for now folks.  Until next time--be Fancy.  And, if it's not too much to ask--please be kind to one another and yourself.  I know there is a lot of hurt in the world and our country, therefore there are a lot of hurtful things being said all over social media.  Just-be kind...and spread love.  Thanks!

Adventures in NYC...Summer 2016

This post is out a lot later than I originally wanted it to be...but as they say...better late than never..right?  Please forgive my absence.  :)  And now..my belated adventures in NYC.  It's my fave city in the whole wide world!!!

*********************************************************************************
The Fancy Ginger in NYC
(Summer 2016)
I went to NYC to visit my sister from June 7th-14th.  It was a magical trip, as per usual.  If you ever get a chance to visit NYC, you should!

Day 1 (June 7th):  I got into NYC at 10:30 am...thanks to my ridiculously early flight.  I picked up my suitcase and promptly took a cab to my sister's apartment in Harlem.  I love Harlem....truly a unique place with wonderful people....and AMAZING SOUL FOOD!!!!!

I dropped my stuff off at my sister's place, and we walked down to grab some grub (in the form of sushi).  Sushi is a must when I visit NYC.  I wish I could remember the name of the place we went to...but maybe my sister will be able to fill in the blanks for me?? Before we got sushi, we did stop at this quaint little coffee shop...Lennox Coffee.  It was definitely a place for local hipsters, and I tried to fit in...which is hilarious.  Regardless of my inability to be a hipster...their Matcha Green Tea was amazing.  I recommend this gem.  It is off the typical tourist beaten path.  The coffee is amazing and the staff is friendly.

Later that night we went to Waitress: The Musical.  I LOVED THIS SHOW!!!! Sara Bareilles wrote the music and lyrics....and when you walked into the theatre, it smelled like pie!  They were also selling pie that you could eat while watching.  Jessie Mueller, who plays the lead, Jenna...is amazing. Her voice is like pure buttah!  It was funny, heart wrenching, and fierce all in one beautiful pie of a show.

After the show, we met up with friends Dena & Ross for conversation, food, and dancing.  I like to share my amazing dancing skills with the city of NYC as much as possible.  You're welcome NYC.

Day 2 (June 8th):  This was a pretty chill day.  Not much planned, except for getting our nails done.  We went down to Chinatown that afternoon to get our nails done, at Vanity Projects NYC.  This place is a little more on the pricey side than your average manicure, but it is well worth it.  They can paint anything on your nails....literally ANYTHING!  Each appointment is scheduled for 2 hours at a time, so make sure that you set aside enough time for pampering. What did I want the nice young girl to paint on my nails??? Ghostbusters, of course!  And she did it all free hand by looking at a picture that I pulled up on my phone.

My sister had the faces of all of the Golden Girls painted on her nails.  One of the patrons getting her nails done asked me if we were going to an event, as the reason for those pictures being painted on our nails.  My response?  'No....we are just that awesome.'  She didn't talk to me again.

My sister had to leave while I was getting my nails done, because she had to practice with her children's theatre group.  So, after I was done with my nails I took the subway to meet her at the theatre.  When she was done we went to Max Brenner's Chocolate Bar and Restaurant.

I was in heaven.  A restaurant that specializes in chocolate....yes please?!?!?!  Umm, we had onion rings with ranch chocolate dip.......and it was soooooo amazing!  The chocolate drinks were so rich, I couldn't even finish half of it.  Pure heaven!

Day 3 (June 9th):  This was the day where I spent most of my time at Scott J. Aveda Spa and Salon, getting pampered.  My sister works here, so it is a must that I get my hair and makeup done here every time I visit NYC.  This day was a day of firsts...first time getting my brows tinted (I am obsessed).....first time getting my brows professionally shaped. It was wonderful.  I love getting pampered.  If you are ever in NYC, you need to stop by a Scott J. Aveda...they have 4 locations.

After my pamper session, I decided to go to Central Park.  As soon as I hit up Strawberry Fields, my old friend Billy (a musician that performs in Strawberry Fields almost every single day), called me over and had me play tambourine while he sang "I Saw Her Standing There."  It was a New York moment.

I headed down to Sheep's Meadow and sat under a tree, enjoying the scenery and trying not to get sunburned. #palepeopleprobs

Day 4 (June 10th):  Yay!  Our cousin was coming in from Washington, D.C.!  She had never been to NYC.  This was a Friday, and she had to leave early on Sunday to get back to D.C.....so my sister and I decided we were going to show her the best parts of the city.  I think we succeeded.

After picking her up from Penn Station, we went to Soho and did some shopping.  Soho is my favorite spot to shop.  It's not too busy, but it has all of the stores that a Fancy Ginger could want.  We visited my favorite store, Birchbox first.  Seriously, the staff at Birchbox are the kindest ladies and gentlemen you will meet.  Service is impeccable.  I am forever devoted to this store, because of the way they treat their customers.  Yes, I stocked up on my must haves.....and spent a lot.  But it's vacation, you are supposed to spend money....right?

We walked down the street from Birchbox and turned a corner....and found a store called Splendid.  I got their Venice Strip Double Layer Dress.  It is seriously the most comfortable dress I have ever owned.

We also went to Kate Spade in Soho.....where I resisted buying anything!!!! I was so tempted. I was projecting my temptation onto my cousin, by trying to get her to buy something for herself, instead.  The ladies at Kate Spade were wonderful to us, as well.  Again, I will always be loyal to a brand if the customer service is top notch.  I think kindness goes a long way, don't you?

After an afternoon of shopping, I WAS HUNGRY.  We decided to just stay in Soho and eat.  We found this lovely italian place-- Il Mulino Prime.  It was the best italian food I have ever had in my whole life.  We just sat and ate.....no rush...just enjoying food and company.  We were the only non-italians (customers and staff included)....it was wonderful.

That evening we went to the musical Bright Star.  I don't even have words to describe how wonderful that show was.  I wish I could say, go see it...but their Broadway run is already over. :(  We all went to it, not knowing what it was about or what to expect.  But, it was one of the best shows I have ever seen on Broadway.  It was beautiful.

Day 5 (June 11th): My sister had to work all day, so I was in charge of taking our cousin around the city.  Not to toot my own horn or anything....for a non-local, I think I did a pretty good job.  We only got lost a couple of times. And, the important moral to that story is that we always found our way back.

We went to Central Park, we went to Chelsea and found a street fair with amazing food and shopping.  I got a dress for $29, and it is one of my favorite finds in NYC.  We went to the 9/11 memorial--saw the Statue of Liberty (from a distance).  Visited our other cousin in the most amazing mall-Brookfield Place. He works at Salvatore Ferragamo in that mall.  Of course, I had to buy shoes there.  If you have seen my Instagram (thefancyginger)....you have seen these amazing polka dotted wonders.  My cousin is the best salesperson ever!!!!

This mall is unreal---it is so beautiful...I felt out of place...yet strangely at home.  Does that even make sense?  The floors are marble!  The restaurants are high caliber.  People dress up just to go to this mall, or maybe that's how they always dress? It was a great experience.

We walked a total of 10-ish miles that day.  We needed soul food.  So we ordered from Sylvia's in Harlem.  I was in heaven.

Day 6 (June 12th): Our cousin had to go back to D.C. :(  I went with her to Penn Station....and then proceeded to take the wrong train to get back to Harlem.  Great job, Fancy Ginger.

I met up with my friends, Dena and Ross and we went to get brunch at The Meatball Shop (Upper West Side).   I took them to Magnolia Bakery after brunch....and forced them to eat chocolate banana pudding.  After that, I wandered around NYC, pretending to be a local.

Day 7 (June 13th): My last full day in the city. :(  Besides mourning my impending departure back to So. Dak---I spent day relaxing.  Then the fun began......WE HAD RESERVATIONS AT TAVERN ON THE GREEN!!!!

Those of you who have seen my favorite movie, "Ghostbusters," know that this was the restaurant where Louis Tully was chased by the "dog" and turned into the Key Master.  It took all of me not to re-enact that scene. But, Tavern on The Green is a pretty classy place, and I am pretty sure my re-enactment skillz would be frowned upon.

**Fun fact--The night before we were at Tavern On The Green--they hosted the Tony's after party for the  cast of Hamilton.**

The food was fabulous.  We ordered what all fancy people order for appetizers.....shrimp cocktail.  I had lobster risotto and my sis had a rack of lamb.  We were officially grownups.

Day 8 (June 14th): Time to go home....super early. :(  Goodbye beautiful, dirty, fancy, NYC.

*********************************************************************************

I had a wonderful time in NYC.  I didn't get to any museums this time, but that just means that I have more to see when I go back.  I would like to make it to High Line park, next time.

I love that I get to go to NYC often....I am very lucky. I am very lucky that my sister, cousin, and Ryan all put up with me--and let me stay in their apartment.  I am lucky that my sister has wonderful friends/co-workers that treat her like family, and treat me like family when I visit.

I do miss my sister, a lot.  But, NYC is only a plane ride away.

So, what's the next big adventure for The Fancy Ginger?  I already have another vacation booked....but it's not for awhile yet......but it is sure to be "magical"....that is a big hint!!!

Until next time....please be kind to one another.  We only get one chance on this planet.  The news is horrifying.  Love is the answer, friends.  Love, love, love!

Stay fancy!

The Truth About Gingers.....

Happy Saturday to one and all.  Has it really been two months since my last post?  I have been a busy little ginger.  But now that it is summer break, I have a little time to update this wee little blog of mine.  What are all of you doing on this Saturday evening? Anyone else binge watching Ghost Adventures, and painting their nails, whilst checking Facebook every 10 seconds?  No?  Just me?  You're missing out!

To get me back on track with this blogging thing, I posted on Facebook a request for some ideas.  The ones I received were all great, so I thought I would just discuss all of them in this post.  After all...it has been two months...I have a lot of catching up to do. :/

Here are the topics I shall be discussing in this post:

1. Facts about gingers that people don't already know.
2. Signs of the zodiac
3.  My babysitting adventures

*********************************************************************************
The Truth About Gingers

Really, what can I say to you all about gingers that hasn't already been said?  Probably nothing........so I am just going to talk about myself as a ginger....give you some facts.

1.  I was born a ginger....au naturale.
2.  Both my sister and I are gingers with blue eyes.  This is a very rare combination, most gingers actually have green eyes...or hazel eyes (like Papa Norm).
3.  I do not tan...I burn...and then I turn pale.  This is why I am constantly slathering on SPF 10000.  If you ever seen me looking tan....know that it is fake.
4.  Not only is my sister a ginger, but my parents were both gingers (my Dad now has platinum blonde hair, and my Mom turned into a brunette).  My Grandpa on my Dad's side was a ginger (his nickname was Red...did I already tell you guys that?  I also have cousins who have ginger hair.  I am pretty sure that my family is the only reason why there are gingers in the world...truth.))
5.  Gingers do have bad tempers (not a stereotype......don't make us mad!!!).
6.  Gingers are a lot of fun!
7.  Gingers don't go grey...they go white....or what I like to call....platinum blonde.
8.  My eyebrows are very blonde....not ginger....isn't that interesting?
9.  I have some freckles on my face...but not that many on my body. Some gingers are covered in freckles (aka Papa Norm....although they have all melted together...so he looks permanently tan).
10.  We are not evil, being ginger is not a disease....it is a blessing...don't make me mad.
11.  Gingers are great dancers (I swear that's the truth).
12.  Ariel is the best Disney princess, and a ginger.  Coincidence?  I think not!

There you have it...facts about Gingers.  Disclaimer:  I did no real research for this....most of this is my opinion.
*********************************************************************************
Signs of the Zodiac

I love discussing things and pretending I am an expert in certain topics....like this one.....signs of the zodiac.  Here is what I know about the zodiac....we are all born under a different sign.  That is probably the extent of my knowledge.  But, since I am pretending to be an expert...I am just going to ramble on.

I am an Aries, which is a ram.  We are supposed to be stubborn, strong and good leaders (although, I really hate being a leader of anything.....too much pressure).  I have no clue what signs are compatible with an Aries.  Just know that if we don't click or get a long...I assume that our signs aren't compatible.  It's a very scientific process.  Although, if I am honest, I can probably get along with anyone (is that too boastful?).

I always thought I was born under the wrong sign....which I kinda was...because I was a premie.  If I would have been born on my actual due date I would have been a Gemini (May 21-June 20).  But whatev'.

I am religious at checking my zodiac sign in the local newspaper everyday, and seeing how many "stars" my day is rated.  If it says I am having a 3-star day...I am immediately bummed out. If I have a 4 or 5-star day....I am on top of the world.  It's a really clever process, because I turn whatever star day it is for me, into a self-fulling prophecy.  Silly Fancy Ginger.

What is your Zodiac sign?  Do you feel like it fits you?

*********************************************************************************
Adventures in Babysitting

The last suggestion for my blog post today, was to post about the handsome blonde I have been hanging out with.  Before y'all get excited....that handsome blonde happens to be my adorable little 4-year old cousin.  We have been having a lot of fun.  We go to the park and scare the birds, ducks or anything else of the avian kind.  We play jail (A LOT).  We watch Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 constantly.....on rotation.  We play dinosaurs.  We pretend we are ghostbusters.

He is so much fun...and has so much energy.  I am envious...but I love it.  :)

*********************************************************************************
Well there you go.  I must get back to my Ghost Adventures binge.  It's gonna be a wild Saturday night for the Fancy Ginger.

Until next time....stay fancy!

Spring Shopping Haul....

Dear Readers,

Once again I have neglected my blog for over a month!!!  I love this blog so much, but sometimes life happens.  To say that things have been cray this past month, would be an understatement.  Since we last met, there have been really sad moments....but also really happy moments. :)  That's life though.  And, now it is spring.  Although, you wouldn't know it with the snowstorm I drove through yesterday (for realz).

Now, where was I?  Oh yes...it is spring.  A time of renewal, flowers, cleaning....and spring shopping!!!  YAY!  I went to Omaha this past weekend with some of my best girlfriends, and did some damage....in a good/fancy way.

I have been looking forward to this shopping trip for a long time.  It's just nice to get out of town, hang out with the girls, and relax.  Life can get so stressful sometimes, we all need to decompress, renew.....and shop (Can I get an amen?!?).

Without further adieu, here is the Fancy Ginger's Spring Shopping Haul.

*********************************************************************************
Fancy Spring Shopping Haul

All of my fancy finds. :)  Stores I went to:  Lush (Very first time!!!), Trader Joe's (I needed my miso soup, coconut oil and oatmeal...I am an old woman), Anthropologie (a.k.a. Heaven), Gretna Outlets (Kate Spade, J. Crew), and H & M..........I was very successful.

Shirt- J.Crew Garment Dyed Tee (bright pink..so everyone will know that I am coming...from a billion miles away.)

Shorts- J.Crew Powdered Oxford City Fit, Inseam 5" (keeping it classy....may have to wait awhile to wear this pair...due to the snow...but one can always be hopeful.)

Shoes- J.Crew Gingham Espadrille Wedges in Navy/Ivory (I am so excited about these wedges, they are going to be so cute this spring/summer.  They will look fancy with this outfit, but they also go with a lot of my wardrobe...I own A LOT of Navy.)

Bag- Kate Spade New York "Mindy" in Make a Splash (Seriously, I could just die..this is an amazing purse/bag.  Those sunglasses are everything.  Eek!!!)
This is me walking around Kate Spade, taking pictures with my potential future purse.  Note- the serious expression is due to the fact that Kate Spade is serious business for this Fancy Ginger.

Shirt- H&M Basic Tee, Crop Top (The term crop top used to scare me, because it conjures up images of Britney Spears ca. 2000.  Don't get me wrong, I love Britney.....but I am 30, and not in the mood to look like an extra in one of her early videos.  However, this crop top does not show any skin...but is super cute paired with this skirt--since it is a bit high-waisted on me.)

Skirt- H&M Jean Skirt (I have not owned a jean skirt since my senior year of high school...in 2003.  I am short of stature so this skirt lands right above my knees...but for a more average sized fancy person, it probably goes a couple of inches above the knees. Seriously, I purchase a crop top and a jean skirt in one trip....things that I have not worn since high school......is this a quarter life crisis?)

I usually purchase clothes at Anthropologie, but I was not in the mood to buy more clothes by the time we got to the store....and I was about to meet by budget quota (oops).  But, I did find these fancy items.  The kitchen towel has a mermaid on it!!!! How adorbs is that? I bought the book to help me do some research for my upcoming NYC trip in June.  I have been to NYC several times, but I still don't feel like I have a grasp on the food scene.  I am so excited to try out some of the places highlighted in the book.

Other Items bought.....that I don't have pictures for, because I got lazy....

I went to Lush......they actually have a store in Omaha. I am so excited.  I have been wanting to go to Lush for sooooooo long.  They advertise that they make "handmade cosmetics." I was eager to try this brand because I had heard so many amazing things about their bath products.

I will be honest though, stepping into the store was a wee bit overwhelming.  There are so many scents in such a small space...it was hard to smell what I was purchasing.  I had to trust the descriptions, and just go with scent combinations I knew I liked.

I purchased The Experimenter bath bomb, Humpty Dumpty Bath Bomb, Mask of Magna Minty (for face and body...it smells soooooo good), and Popcorn Lip Scrub (tastes sweet and salty...like buttered popcorn).

Once I use all of the products, I will be sure to give a review. :)  I love bath time!!!

*********************************************************************************
Well folks, there you have it.  My spring shopping haul.  I hope you enjoyed it.  Hopefully it won't be another month until we meet again.

My 31st birthday is coming up....what should I do to celebrate?

In the meantime, be kind to one another and be fancy!!

Fancy Ginger Thoughts.....

Happy Sunday everyone!  I wish my posts were more consistent.....but life gets in the way, sometimes.  You know how it goes.....

I have decided to do a bit of a different post today.  I usually just post on fancy things that I find (I will still do that today....not to worry), but today is going to be a random post on thoughts that I have had lately.....on a multitude of topics.  Shall we get started????

*********************************************************************************
Fancy Ginger Thoughts
(In no particular order....definitely not chronological.)

1. Valentine's Day........has come and gone.  I don't mind Valentine's Day.  Love is great.  Chocolate is even better.  I am single... a widely known fact.  And although it would be nice to not be single one of these days.....I am never bitter about Valentine's Day.  I love, love in all it's forms.  The same is true about chocolate.  I have great friends and a wonderful family.  Love is truly all you need.....that, and chocolate.

2.  Government is interesting and infuriating all at once.

3.  I always get sick in February.  ALWAYS!

4.  People just need to be kind to one another, and themselves.  Such a simple concept.....yet the hardest for some to master. I need to work on it, as well.

5.  I have lost 20-25 pounds over the last several months.  Not because of exercise  (I am rubbish at exercise anyways), but by cutting juice, pop and processed foods out of my diet.  Again, a simple concept...but took me forever to figure out.

6.  Lot2029 is like my little piece of heaven in Downtown Sioux Falls.  I need to post a haul to show you all of the fancy things I bought on my last trip to that wonderful store.  I bought ripped jeans, a fancy blouse, a shirt that says "You Had Me At Brunch" (how true is that, though?), a candle that smells amazing, and a super cool sign for my office.  I always went to a store in Downtown Sioux Falls calls Oh My Word!  It is a luxury paparie (I didn't even know that was a thing).  It is also one of my faves.  They had Kate Spade stationary....for realz.

7. My Kate Spade planner and purse came in the mail....I am in love.  I shall post them in my haul, as well.

8.  I am trying to get pumped for the new "Ghostbusters" movie.  But, it's just not the same without all of the originals.  I hope I am pleasantly surprised.

9.  "The Walking Dead" mid-season premier....are you kidding me??????  Are you trying to give me a heart attack?????  I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!

10.  I have decided to stay in bed all day today...and work on my computer and take 5 million naps.  Perfect Sunday.

Adios y'all.  Cheers and Stay Fancy!!!!
Fancy Ginger without makeup....typical Sunday.

I think I am in love.......

Good evening fancy people!!! There comes a time in every fancy ginger's life where she stumbles upon something wonderful....something fantastic....something fancy.  When that happens she falls in love. It was bound to happen, folks.  And, you all were right---it happened when I wasn't looking for it.  You guys, I think I am in love....with Lot 2029.  <3 EEEK.....I am so happy!

All sarcasm and jokes aside...this store is EVERYTHING!!!! For reals.  Let me go back a little and share the tale of this love story:

*********************************************************************************
Fancy Ginger + Lot 2029 = True Fancy Love

My parents and I had tickets to see Pippin at the Washington Pavilion (it was amazing btw), yesterday.  The show was at 2 pm (when I am with my parents we see early shows...they are old...just kidding....sort of....I love my parents....I feel bad saying they were old...I am just going to shut up now), and we got to Sioux Falls at noon---so we had some time to kill.  Downtown Sioux Falls is amazing.  It has come such a long way, even in just the past 5 years.  We went to Coffea, where I had the most amazing cappuccino.  Afterwards, we decided to do some "window shopping" (I never stick to just window shopping, though....we all know that).

Then I saw it-----Lot 2029.  As soon as I walked into the door, I knew I was in love.  I look to my right and see tumblers by Ban.Do (one of my fave brands that I get on Birchbox), I look to my left and see amazing shoes, and I look ahead...and I literally see fancy things!  I almost cried...not even joking.  I don't think I can quite describe this store adequately.  But, if I have to describe it, I would say that it is a more economical version of Anthropologie (one of my most favorite stores...but it is spendy).

I was overwhelmed with joy that I had found a store that was truly me.  Even my parental units said that if Andrea was a store...it would be Lot 2029.  This is no joke.  I only bought a few items, which I will share below--but I have already scheduled another trip to this wonderful place over President's Day weekend.  I expect to come back with an even bigger haul.  :)

Lot 2029 is located in Fargo (612 Main Ave.), Bismark (206 N. 4th St), and in Sioux Falls (207 S. Phillips Ave.).  You can also shop online here

This was inside the store....so perfect and beautiful.

Tank by Color Bear $20- "Drink Coffee & Be Fancy" (that was a no-brainer purchase, for me)
Fleece Lined Leggings by MOPAS $9.50 (perfect for SD weather)
Notebook by NINJ & NINJ $15 (perfect for all of my wonderful and fancy blogging ideas)
Lip Glaze by Feeling Smitten in Pink Peppermint $6.50 (I lost my lip balm....and I was desperate...this is a wonderful balm though!)

Pippin was fantastic!!!!!  My mom got me this shirt to commemorate the experience. :)

*********************************************************************************
Until next time, my friends---cheers & stay fancy!!!!!

To wash my hair, or not to wash my hair? That is the fancy question......

It's Sunday Funday!! Too bad it's a billion degrees below zero outside.  Although, to be honest--even if it were nicer out I would still be lying on my couch, having a Mel Brooks movie marathon.  I am onto Blazing Saddles.

This weekend started out with me seeing the current Oscar contender--The Revenant, with a good friend. We went because it was winning awards, and it had Leonardo DiCaprio.  LEO!!!  Turns out it is nothing like Titanic (just kidding, I knew it was going to be bloody and about Hugh Glass....I was trying to be cute.)?!?!?!  To say it was bloody, is a bit of an understatement.  It's also not historically accurate.  But, I can look past all of that, because it's Leo...gross, dirty, bloody, and bearded Leo..but still Leo.

Judging by what I just wrote, I would say it's safe to say that no one is going to be hiring me to write movie reviews any time soon.

Anywho....moving on to today's topic.......

*********************************************************************************
How often should you wash your hair?

I don't have an answer to that question, but I have been experimenting with not washing my hair as often as I used to.  I have heard from the unfortunate people who have to cut my hair (I have an odd shaped head), from friends, and other beauty bloggers/vloggers that one should not wash their hair every day.  I was told it would "strip my hair of it's natural oils."

I ignored that advice for the majority of my life....until this summer.  I had grown up with the habit of needing to shampoo my hair (I didn't always condition regularly...I know....gasp) everyday.  However, I rediscovered my love of dry shampoos, and decided to try to only shampoo/condition my hair every other day.

I did the every other day thing regularly, since June....and then I decided to push myself further.  Towards the end of December my hair was getting super dry...and nothing seemed to be working.  It was then that I decided to only shampoo/condition my hair 2 times a week.  On the days that I did not shampoo/condition I used dry shampoo to help keep my hair refreshed....and to manage excess oil...so I didn't look greasy.

Cons of only washing your hair 2x per week (in a Fancy Ginger's opinion):
  • Your hair will look greasy, at first.  I figured it was my body's way of getting used to the new process....as well as telling me that I needed to find the right dry shampoo.
  • It is so hard to kick the habit of shampooing and conditioning every single day...or even every other day.
Pros of only washing your hair 2x per week (in a Fancy Ginger's opinion):
  • Less time getting ready on those mornings when you don't need to shampoo/condition my hair (which means I can stop at Starbucks on my way to work).
  • Your style holds much better.  If I decide to curl or make my hair wavy (which does not happen often at all)...it doesn't take as long to do, because of the oils in my hair.
  • I don't have to buy shampoo/conditioner as often.
  • After awhile, I don't look like such a grease ball.
  • My hair doesn't get frizzy, and it looks a lot healthier.
Conclusion:  I feel like I am way behind the times with this whole process.  But, I am glad I am doing this.  My hair looks and feels much healthier, and I think I have found products that really work for me.  For me...this works.  How often do you guys wash your hair? What tips do you have?

Here is what I use to shampoo/condition my hair (I alternate these products):

Before I leave you--has anyone tried the website ShopAtHome.com? My mom introduced me to the site. I haven't actually used it yet, but I created an account.  Basically, the idea is you can shop online at your favorite stores (it seriously has every store you could want from Walmart to Nordstrom...and beyond), and you can earn cash back for shopping.  I don't know about you, but I like the idea of earning some money by spending some money.

That is all for now.  Until next----cheers and stay fancy!!!

A Fancy Ginger's NYC Adventure Part 2....the final conflict (just kidding...no conflict...just shenanigans).

Well, here's to the LONGEST title of a blog post, EVER!  How are you all doing?  I hope your weekend is off to a great start.  I am trying to think warm thoughts, as the wind chill where I am at is currently -15 degrees Fahrenheit.  Gotta love winters in South Dakota.  Did that keep me in today? Of course not (spoken like a true South Dakotan).

I am currently listening to The Beatles, smelling a delicious candle (Autumn by Bath and Body Works.....I know...it's not autumn, anymore), and trying to figure out my weekly grocery order.  It's a pretty exciting Saturday night for the Fancy Ginger.  Now onto Part 2 of my NYC adventure....let's all cross our fingers that ALL of my pictures upload tonight.

*********************************************************************************
Sunday, December 27th:  I am pretty sure we slept-in that day....perhaps this was the day the Doctor Who marathon was on BBC America----I watched many episodes of it that morning (David Tennant was the doctor--he was my fave doctor..fyi).  Eventually we removed ourselves from the couch, got ready and headed to Murray's Cheese Bar (264 Bleecker St.--such a cute part of the city).

My sister and I LOVE cheese...any kind....it doesn't matter.  We don't discriminate.  So with that in mind, we decided to order 4 different cheeses and meats (chosen by the cheese monger).  I really should have written down what we had, because I cannot remember.  But, they were all delicious.  When I grow up, I want to be a cheese monger.  If you visit NYC and love cheese, you must stop here.

After we ate, we needed dessert.  Next stop was Big Gay Ice Cream (walking distance from Murray's Cheese Bar).  My parents visited this little shop this past summer.  If you look up top ice cream shops in the United States, this one always makes those lists, and for good reason. Their flavors and flavor combinations are not only creative, but very delicious.  This is also a popular spot that not only attracts tourists, but locals also head to it when they need a sweet fix. :)  Since it was a little cold out, and I needed a pick me up-I decided to go for their Affogato (coffee and ice cream).....which I proceeded to spill all over myself (oh, fancy ginger).  Next time, I am going to be a little more adventurous and go for the Bea Arthur.

Monday, December 28th:  My sister had to work this day, so I got go off on my own for bit. I decided to head to Central Park and spend sometime at Strawberry Fields.  I quickly made friends with one of the performers at Strawberry Fields; a man in his 60's who has performed in Strawberry Fields since it's dedication.  **For those that are not familiar with Strawberry Fields, it is a lovely section the park dedicated to John Lennon.  The Dakota (John's apartment building he resided in) overlooks Strawberry Fields.***

Anywho--this gentleman told me stories of his encounters with the fab four (fascinating), offered me part of his egg sandwich, and wanted to give me his gloves because he thought I was cold. Oh bless him.  He was a gem...he's not the only one--the city and world are full of these gems....fyi.

Next, I decided to walk across Central Park (not as far as you think) to get to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  $25 is the suggested price for an adult ticket, however you can pay what you are able. :)  One of my favorite parts of this museum was the Egyptian artifacts and the Greek/Roman sculptures.

That night, Elizabeth and I went to the jazz club 55 Below...I think that's what it was called.  I don't have much experience listening to jazz music, but this was fun.  However--by 10:30 I was dead tired. So, I UBER-ed it on home....and ordered sushi (I became addicted to Grub Hub on this trip...one click and I can get food....it was amazing).

Tuesday, December 29th: Maybe this was the day I watched Doctor Who? I really don't know, because all remember is being lazy and staying on the couch, all day.  That's really what vacation should be about....doing nothing.  I feel I was successful in that endeavor.

Later that night, my sister and I went to the musical Spring Awakening.  It was brilliant.  This revival of the musical was all done in American Sign Language. All dialogue and musical numbers were spoken and signed. The cast was a mix actors who were deaf and those who were hearing.  It was wonderful.  If you are in NYC this month, make an effort to attend.  I believe it's run on Broadway ends towards the end of January. :(

This musical WILL give you ALL THE FEELS......we ate a lot of cupcakes after the show.

Wednesday, December 30th: Nothing too exciting happened this day. My sister had to work, so I decided to head down where she worked and do a little more shopping.  I just want to let you all know that I went into Kate Spade....and actually refrained from buying anything.  This was a big moment for me...because I didn't think it would ever be possible for me to go into that store and NOT buy anything.  No regrets.  I did buy an outfit at Athleta, though. :)

Thursday, December 31st (New Years Eve):  I did nothing during the day....absolutely nothing.  It was wonderful.

I had an appointment at Scott J. Aveda (Upper West Side) that afternoon/evening to get my hair primped and styled, and my makeup done for NYE. I felt very fancy.  I shall post pics below of the end result.  I wore my sparkly top from Free People, faux leather leggings (from Amazon.com..haha), and Salvatore Ferragamo wedges.  I was ready to hit the town (slowly though...it took me awhile to get used to walking in those wonderful shoes, hahaha).

We met up with my cousin Kurtis and Ryan for a lovely dinner at Joanne's Trattoria (owned by Lady Gaga's parents).  The dinner was fabulous.  I had the sea scallop's in cream sauce, with homemade fettuccine.  For dessert.....Nutella Lasagna (to die for).

No, we didn't go to Times Square (that place is just cray).  But, we did watch the festivities on TV, from the comfort of the apartment.  :)

Friday, January 1st (2016):  Time for me to go home. :(  I had such a lovely time thanks to my sister, Kurtis and Ryan.....not to mention all of my sister's friends and the staff at Scott J. Aveda.  I love NYC.  It is truly one of my favorite places to be.  I look forward to going back soon-ish.

For those of you who have been to NYC, where are you favorite places to hit up in the city?

And now for a barrage of pictures (these are not in order...but, oh well):

Disclaimer---most of the photo cred. for the following pictures goes to my lovely sister.  Without her photos, there would be no proof (other than my memories) of the fun that we had.  Thanks Elizabeth! :)

My beautiful Ferragamos....I shall protect you always.  Thanks sistah!

A Fancy Ginger's NYC Adventure Part 1.....

Happy 2016 everyone!!  I just looked at my last post date......and it's been almost 2 months since I last posted.  Yikes!  I apologize for the delay between posts.  November and December have been crazy busy.

One of my new year's resolutions this year is to make time, every Saturday, to post a new blog update.  I just need to bite the bullet and go through with it.  I love blogging, but I make every excuse to delay the posts (usually the excuse is a nap....I love naps).  But, no more excuses---this is one of my creative outlets and it gives me an excuse to talk about my love for beauty products, fashion, and an assortment of random topics that pop into my head, at any given moment.  Please help hold me accountable!!!!!!

Anywho- I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season--full of family, food, and festivities. I just returned from an epic Christmas vacation to visit my sister (who is also a ginger....of course) in NYC.  For those of you who have never visited the Big Apple.....put it on your bucket list/to-do list......especially around November/December.  Holiday's are the best in NYC.

My sister has lived in the city for 4 years now.  I try to visit her once or twice a year.  Sometimes I go with our parental units, but usually I travel alone or with a friend.  This Christmas I traveled alone, since my parents will be making a trip in the spring.

First of all, can we talk about the tropical weather New York was having?  70 degrees on Christmas Eve?!?!  How cray is that?  I wasn't complaining.  Although, on a deeper level I am really concerned about the effects global warming is having on our planet....but that is for another post.

Here is a list of all of the shenanigans my sister and got up to throughout my stay:

Christmas Eve (December 24th)--
I get on the plane in Omaha....in a blizzard.  I get off the plane in NYC....in a heatwave.  Crazy planet!
When I arrived at my sister's apartment she had ordered us a huge feast of sushi and hot and sour soup (a Wright Family Christmas Eve tradition).  It was delicious...and I took a nap immediately after consuming the delicious food.
After we got up from the much needed naps, we got ready for church.  When my family visits NYC, we usually attend church at Trinity Church Wall Street.  Even if you don't want to attend church, it's still a cool place to visit....historically fascinating.  Moving on.....we attended Christmas Eve Mass at Trinity Church's St. Paul Chapel.  It was a beautiful service, and at the end we got an ornament. :)

Christmas Day (December 25th)--
This was a rather lazy day.  We woke up, FaceTimed our parents to open gifts, made pancakes, ate, and took a nap (we like our naps).  Later that afternoon we decided to get ready for our guests.  Yes, the Wright sister's were in charge of Christmas dinner (which we had never done, all on our own before).  It turned out great.  Much fun was had with friends new and old.

Saturday (December 26th)--
I LOVED THIS DAY!!!! We woke up pretty early because I had an appointment to get my hair cut/styled at Scott J. Aveda Salon (where my sister works).  I chopped off my long locks...for a very modern look that I want to call a "lob"....but that is probably not what it's called at all.....so ignore that.  Regardless of the name...I love it (see pictures below).

After getting fabulous and fancy at Scott J.'s--my sis took me to Tea & Sympathy where I had a lovely english breakfast consisting of tea (uh duh, fancy ginger), beans & toast, and sausage and bacon.  I could eat that every single day, if I knew it wouldn't lead to an early death due to clogged arteries.

Once we had finished our lovely brunch, we hopped on the subway and traveled to SOHO....for.....MANICURES AT BIRCHBOX.  You all know how much I love Birchbox....it's a no brainer that I would go to the store.  I got so many goodies, and the girls (and guys) that work there make everyone feel so pampered.  I recommend you all go there....now!!!

We then went to Free People, and I bought my sparkling NYE top (see pics).  I love Free People.  Prices are pretty comparable to Anthropologie.....so a little spendy....but great quality.

Next, my sister took me to Uniqlo....a clothing store which originated in Japan.  The clothes were great quality for such a good price!!! I got a pair of jeans, a flannel shirt and a 3/4 length t-shirt.

Let's just say that this day put me in shopping heaven.  I love shopping in SOHO, because it doesn't feel as crowded as it would if I were to shop on 34th St and 5th Avenue...yikes!!

We ended this day by going to the movie Sisters.  The theater we went to had recliners to sit on.  I felt like a queen...a queen sitting on a ......recliner.

********Update---I was going to upload photos for you on today's post...but my computer has decided to have a mind of it's own, and not allow that to happen. Today's pictures will be attached to Part 2.  Good Grief TECHNOLOGY****

Well that's all for now, fancy people.  I realized that my NYC adventures are taking a little longer to document.  I will be posting my adventures in 1 or 2 more posts.  Stay tuned---part 2 is up next.  What shenanigans will this Fancy Ginger get up to now?????

Until next time--stay fancy!
